What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet of Bahá’u’lláh, the original text of which has been published in Áyát-i-Iláhí, vol. 1, p. 340. See also my translation of a very similar Tablet of Bahá’u’lláh here.
Convey to the divines these words of Bahá: “Ye have deemed Us to be deserving of blame. What fault appeared so conspicuously from the Primal Point,[1] may the souls of all else but Him be sacrificed for His sake, that ye made Him the target of bullets? If the Primal Point was culpable, what offense was manifested so plainly from the Seal of the Prophets,[2] may the life of the worlds be offered up for His sake, that ye held a gathering to plot His murder? If the Seal of the Prophets was guilty, what transgression and calumny proceeded so clearly from Christ that ye nailed Him to the cross? If, according to your vain imagining, Christ spoke falsely, what slanderous fabrication was so flagrantly uttered by the Interlocutor[3] that ye testified to His untruth? If, as your idle fancy suggesteth, the Interlocutor was a reproachable liar, what crime was so evidently committed by the Friend[4] that ye cast Him into the fire? And if ye say, ‘We are not those people,’ We reply, ‘Your words are those same words, and your deeds those very deeds.’”
