What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet by Bahá’u’lláh, the original text of which has been published in Áyát-i-Iláhí, vol. 2, p. 349. According to a manuscript copy of this Tablet held at the British Library (Or15715, p. 370), the Tablet was addressed to the son of a certain Himmat-‘Alí Khán. Faruq Izadinia has identified this as a Bahá’í of Qazvín, about whom more information can be found in Áyát-i-Bayyinát, pp. 247 and 286; Táríkh-i-Ẓuhúru’l-Ḥaqq, vol. 3, p. 386; Táríkh-i-Samandar, p. 267; INBA, vol. 15, p. 212; INBA, vol. 18, p. 138; and other volumes of INBA.
He is the All-Knowing, the All-Informed
O youth! God grant that, through the bounty of the Most Merciful, thou mightest attain to His limitless outpourings. Since thou hast been adorned, in the flower of thy youth, with the recognition of the Dayspring of Revelation, implore God that thou mayest be confirmed in a Cause that will remain and endure in the book of existence. Extinction shall lay hold on every affair save the utterance spoken for the sake of God and the deed performed for Him alone. Such an affair as that will not be overtaken by extinction. Strive that thou mightest quaff the everlasting Wine and reach the living waters of steadfastness. We beseech God to aid thee in His remembrance, His praise, and His service, and to assist thee to do what shall immortalize thy mention in His perspicuous Book. Appreciate the value of these days, and guard these exalted Words, which have been sent from the Most Sublime Vision, as thou wouldst thy very sight.
