“O thou who art young in years, O Badíʻ! Rejoice, for thou art mentioned by the Creator of the heavens and the earth…”

What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet by Bahá’u’lláh, the original text of which appears in INBA, vol. 45, p. 219.

For a Tablet that Bahá’u’lláh appears to have revealed earlier for this same Badí‘ (who should not be confused with the Apostle of Bahá’u’lláh for reasons explained in note 1 below), see here.

O Badíʻ,[1] son of him who hath ascended unto the Glorious Companion![2]

He is the Beholder, the Witness, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing

O thou who art young in years, O Badíʻ! Rejoice, for thou art mentioned by the Creator [Badíʻ] of the heavens and the earth, Who appeared with a Revelation that hath shaken the foundation of vain imaginings and idle fancies. He, verily, is the One through Whom the Great Terror[3] was made manifest in the midst of humanity, and the Supreme Ordainer hath declared: “There is, in truth, no God but Me, the All-Glorious, the All-Bountiful!” Blessed art thou and thy father,[4] who hath ascended unto God, the Ruler of the Day of Return. With regard to him hath the Pen of the Most High given testimony that excelleth whatever hath been fashioned in the kingdom of creation. Unto this beareth witness Him with Whom is the Mother Book.

O Badíʻ! God willing, thou hast attained to the bounties of God. With thy tongue do We render praise to the Beloved of the world, inasmuch as He manifested thee from one who apprehended the station of the All-Praised. Well is it with him and with thee, and also with thy mother,[5] who forsook her home and journeyed until she reached that Spot which hath been mentioned in the Books of God, the Lord of the mighty Throne. Happy, too, is the one who setteth thine affairs in order purely for the sake of God, the Lord of all worlds.

The bounties of God have ever been and are still directed toward thee. God grant that the friends in that land, who have quaffed the living waters of eternity and whose gaze is fixed upon the Most Exalted Horizon, may not neglect thine affairs, but rather make as mighty an effort as possible to set them in order.

Glory rest upon thee and upon thy father, and upon whosoever loveth him, visiteth him, and recounteth the days he lived for God, the Lord of the heavens and the earth.

[1] I do not know who this Badíʻ or his father were. It could not have been Áqá Buzurg-i-Nishápúrí, the young man Bahá’u’lláh sent to deliver the Lawḥ-i-Sulṭán to Náṣiri’d-Dín Sháh, or his father, Ḥájí ʻAbdu’l-Majíd Nishápúrí (known as Abá Badíʻ, “the father of Badíʻ”), because the martyrdom of Badíʻ took place before his father was martyred, whereas in this case it was the son who survived the father.

[2] This opening line does not occur in INBA 45:219, but it can be found in another version of this Tablet included in a manuscript collection held at the British Library (Or15697, p. 262; see this screenshot).

[3] Qurʼán 21:103.

[4] This appears to have been a man named ‘Alí-Akbar; see here, note 2.

[5] Briefly discussed in note 4 of this earlier Tablet by Bahá’u’lláh.

A typescript of the original Arabic and Persian text of the Tablet appears below.
