What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet of visitation by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. The original text has not been published; a typescript of it was shared with me by Marc Soudon, who received it from the National Bahá’í Archives of France.
This Tablet of visitation was written in honor of Gabriel Sacy (20 November 1858 – 21 March 1903), an Egyptian Catholic and Martinist who seems to have become a Baháʼí around the turn of the twentieth century, apparently under the guidance of Mírzá Abu’l-Faḍl Gulpáygání, who was also living in Egypt at the time. Sacy spoke seven languages, studied at the Syrian Protestant College (now the American University of Beirut), and worked as the head of the personnel office at the Ministry of Finance in Cairo. E.G. Browne writes that Sacy “had become a fervent Baháʼí with a very remarkable faculty for interpreting the prophecies of the Old and New Testaments, especially those of the Book of Daniel and Revelation, in support of the Bábí and Bahá’í claims” (Materials for the Study of the Bábí Religion, pp. 185–86).
Tablet of visitation for him who hath repaired unto the Glorious Companion, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s Jibrán [Gabriel]
He is God!
Upon thee be glory and praise, and upon thee be greetings and good-pleasure, O Jibrán! The light streaming forth from the Abhá Kingdom and the splendor shining from the Supreme Concourse surround thy fragrant tomb and thy radiant resting-place, whose precincts are redolent with perfume. I testify that thou didst hear the call and respond to the summons, didst witness the Most Great Sign and turn toward the Sun of Bahá, didst sever thyself from all else and cling to the hem of grandeur in this Day of Meeting.
Blessed art thou, inasmuch as thy breast was dilated through the verses of thy God, thy tongue spoke to make mention of thy Lord, thy heart was filled with love for thine All-Glorious Beloved and brimmed with the wine of divine mysteries in this wondrous Day. Thy pen, moreover, flowed with the proofs of thy God, the signs of thy Lord, and a conclusive testimony unto all humanity. Verily, thou wert chosen by thy God, Who singled thee out to diffuse His sweet savors throughout all regions.
I testify that thou didst fulfill the duty of servitude, and that thou didst ascend, soar aloft, and pledge thyself to sacrifice in the path of Him Who is the Desire of the true believers. Well is it with the soul that approacheth thy resting-place and is perfumed by the dust of thy tomb; such a one is indeed of the blissful. Praise be to God, the Lord of all worlds.
