A Tablet for Soroush Yazdani, Longtime Attendant and Gardener to ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the original text of which has been published in Yárán-i-Pársí, p. 200 (selection no. 215). This Tablet was addressed to Soroush Yazdani, who from his youth served ‘Abdu’l-Bahá for many years as His attendant and gardener in ‘Akká, and later went to the village of ‘Adasíyyih in present-day Jordan. I am grateful to Ferdows Mehrgani, the granddaughter of Soroush Yazdani, for sharing that background with me on this Tablet to her grandfather.

He is God

O my God! I traveled through wildernesses and crossed seas until I reached the realm of light,* where I became a resident at Thy threshold and sought shelter in Thy court. O Lord! Forgive my sins and awaken my heart and soul. Grant me steadfastness and fling open the gates of the highest Paradise. Make me as a peacock of the realms above and bestow upon me resplendent wings. Render me Thy long-standing servant and adorn me with the attributes of firmness and constancy, that I may arise to serve Thee, suffer patiently in Thy love, and sing sweet songs in Thy praise. Thou art the Bestower, the All-Loving, and Thou art the Forgiver of all sins.
