What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the original text of which has been published in Dástán-i-Dústán, pp. 108–109.

O thou lamp that burnest with the fire of the love of God! I have perused thy recent letter and learned of thine intense affection. There hath been kindled within my heart a love for thee which, wert thou to become aware of it, would fill thee with gladness and delight, such that thine own heart would overflow with a joy whose signs shall forever endure, and thou wouldst render thanks unto God both day and night for this wondrous bounty.
O my friend! Strive with thy spirit, thine inmost essence, and thy tongue, that thou mayest become a means by which the hearts and souls of humankind might be quickened. Be thou compassionate unto every poor one, a refuge unto every abased one, and a physician unto every sick one; a father unto every little one, and a son unto every grown one; a draught of limpid water unto every thirsty one, and a heavenly feast unto every hungry one; a guide unto every wayward one, and a shelter unto every fearful one; an intercessor unto every sinful one, and a source of joy unto every sorrowful one.
Upon thee be greetings and praise.
