“O thou who utterest the praise of God! If thou shouldst speak, speak of communion with Him…”

What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a Tablet of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the original text of which has been published in multiple places, among them Faramarz Ashraf, Yárán-i-Qazvín, Munjadhibán-i-Jamál-i-Mubín, p. 536. The Tablet was addressed to Buyúk Áqá, the father-in-law of Mírzá Faḍlu’lláh Ashraf, for whom this other Tablet of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá I have provisionally translated was written. To Buyúk Áqá, upon him be the Glory of God, the All-Glorious

He is the Most Effulgent

O thou who utterest the praise of God! If thou shouldst speak, speak of communion with Him. If thou shouldst seek, seek His peerless Beauty. If thou shouldst search, search in His direction. For every utterance save this spiritual reality is without meaning, every quest but the one for that True Beloved will end in loss and perdition, and every effort and endeavor apart from this way of ardent striving shall bring endless toil and trouble. In this Day, therefore, every thought and mention—every movement, goal, and desire—must be forgotten. Let naught but Him be known, naught but Him be seen, naught but Him be heard. Rather must we be caught up entirely in Him, becoming weary of friend and stranger alike, and occupying ourselves with spreading the fragrances of His divine holiness. “Such is the bounty of God; He giveth it to whomsoever He willeth.”*

بیوک آقا، علیه بهاءالله الابهی، ملاحظه نمایند

هوالابهی

ای ناطق به ثنایِ الهی! اگر بگوئی، از راز و نیازِ او گوی؛ و اگر بجوئی، جمالِ بی‌انبازِ او جوی؛ و اگر بپوئی، سویِ او پوی. چه که هر گفتگوئی جز این حقیقتِ معنویّه هَذَیان است، و هر جستجوئی به غیر از آن معشوقِ حقیقی زیان و خسران است، و هر سعی و کوششی دونِ این روش و جوشش تعب و زحمتِ بی‌پایان. پس، الیوم باید هر فکر و ذکر و حرکت و مقصد و مراد را فراموش نمود، جز او ندانست و جز او ندید و جز او نشنید، بلکه به کلّی گرفتارِ او شد و از بیگانه و خویش بیزار گشت و به نشرِ روائحِ قدسِ احدیّتش مشغول شد. ذَلِکَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللهِ؛ یُؤْتِیَهُ مَنْ یَشَاءُ.
