What follows is my provisional translation (in other words, not official or authorized; see here for more) of a passage from a Tablet of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the original text of which appears in Amr va Khalq, vol. 4, p. 94.
22 MARCH 2024 UPDATE: Since posting the translation below, it has come to my attention that an authorized translation of this passage is published in The Importance of Obligatory Prayer and Fasting, section 2, item XII. That translation is apparently based on a slightly different (and more complete) version of the original text that appears in INBA, vol. 17, p. 19.

The obligatory prayer is mandatory and incumbent upon all. Thou shouldst certainly invite everyone to fast and pray, for in these duties lie the exaltation of souls and the key to the hearts of the righteous. They constitute the water of life in the garden of Paradise, and are scripturally prescribed by the Most Merciful. To postpone or take them lightly is in no wise permitted.
